ai luminaries 2019

In 2019, we began our journey after featuring a group of luminaries in The Future of Prediction.

Following on the heels of The Future of Prediction, we launched AI Luminaries with a mission to shine a monthly spotlight on a selection of luminaries in the artificial intelligence space. In 2019, each month had a guiding theme.

By 2020, it was clear that two big things needed to change. First, we needed to shift to a quarterly cadence. Second, we needed to broaden the themes to include a wider selection of luminaries.

We hope you continue to follow along in 2020,

Text Columns

Though not as powerful as flexbox, text columns provide a handy way to create a flexible column layout (it doesn’t have to be text only). Pro tip: make sure any children of a text column is set to position: inline-block.

Seven

Use “max-width” to create natural, responsive-friendly line breaks.

Whenever you insert an artificial line break by hitting enter, you’re adding an HTML element: <br>. Sometimes, those breaks cause awkward looking sentences on tablet and mobile. Max-width is a better way to introduce those line breaks without using a <br>.

Background-image

There’s two ways to insert images into your website. One is to add an image element (the <img> HTML tag) and the other is to add a background-image CSS style to a div. They each have their place. But, a background image can be flexible, adjusting to the changes of its div.

Landscape Declarations

As much as possible, make mobile style changes in mobile landscape, not portrait. That will eliminate double work.
